Lumbar Disc Injuries with Anterior Discectomy and Fusion

ID: exh56935a
This medical exhibit depicts multiple surgical steps of lumbar disc injuries with an anterior discectomy and fusion. The first image shows an orientational view of the normal spinal anatomy of an adult male. Next is an MRI film interpretation of lumbar disc injuries and two superior views detailing the injuries. The surgical steps begin with a midline incision made into the abdomen. The second surgical step shows a radical anterior discectomy performed at the L4-5 and L5-S1 intervertebral spaces. The last step shows femoral ring allografts packed with collagen sponges soaked with bone morphogenic protein being inserted into the disc spaces.
