This stock medical exhibit depicts the placement of an intraspinal drug delivery pump and catheter. The first image is a lateral view of a male torso with a cross-section of the lower thoracic and lumbar spine visible underneath the skin. A hollow needle is shown inserted into the spinal canal at the level of L2-L3. The second image shows a catheter threaded through this hollow needle up to the level of T12-L1. The third image shows removal of the needle and suturing of the catheter into place. The fourth image shows tunneling of the catheter under the skin to the anterior abdomen, and the final image shows the reservoir pump being attached to the catheter and placed in a pocket in the anterior abdomen.
