Lumbar Disc Injury with Surgical Repair - Medical Illustration, Human Anatomy Drawing
This exhibit begins with one sagittal (side cut-away) view of the lumbar spine illustrating the pre-operative condition. This image clearly reveals the disc extrusion at the L4-5 level with compression of the right L5 nerve root.
Next, one posterior view of the lower body of a male figure is created to illustrate the injuries as a result of this disc extrusion. The lumbar spine, nerve roots and various nerves coursing down into the legs are shown transparently beneath the skin. A bright red flash is shown over the L4-5 level representing the site of injury and this red color is shown coursing out across the lower back, buttock and down into the right leg representing the pain, numbness and tingling.
Finally, two steps of the hemilaminectomy and discectomy procedure are illustrated in graphic detail.
